 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 715

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to

 1-4     extend congratulations to Sister Muriel Rose Boyle, O.S.U., on the

 1-5     occasion of the 50th anniversary of her religious profession; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, She celebrated the august occasion on April 26, 1997,

 1-7     in the chapel of Saint Augustine High School, where she made her

 1-8     first profession 50 years ago; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, A native of Lowell, Massachusetts, Sister Rose

1-10     was the youngest of four children born to Frank J. and Rose Boyle

1-11     and attended Lowell public schools; her brother, Frank, and sister,

1-12     Ruth, travelled to Laredo to join her in the Jubilee Celebration;

1-13     and

1-14           WHEREAS, When she entered the Ursuline Community in

1-15     Laredo, Texas, in 1945, the convent was located on Galveston

1-16     Street; it is now known as Saint Augustine School; and

1-17           WHEREAS, A graduate of Incarnate Word College in San Antonio,

1-18     Sister Muriel Rose has a bachelor of science degree in elementary

1-19     education and is a kindergarten teacher at Saint Peter's Memorial

1-20     School in Laredo; in addition to her teaching, Sister Muriel Rose

1-21     has been a member of the Laredo Philharmonic Chorale for eight

1-22     years; and

1-23           WHEREAS, An exceptional instructor, Sister Muriel Rose

 2-1     loves teaching and still finds it to be a challenging and rewarding

 2-2     profession; except for a year she lived in Rome, she has spent her

 2-3     entire teaching career in Laredo; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Her students have received an excellent education as

 2-5     a result of her wisdom, expertise, and concern for each individual

 2-6     child; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, Recognized as an inspiring and gifted educator,

 2-8     Sister Muriel Rose was honored as Teacher of the Year at Saint

 2-9     Peter's Memorial School; now, therefore, be it

2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-11     75th Legislature, hereby commend the meritorious service of

2-12     Sister Muriel Rose Boyle to the students of Saint Peter's Memorial

2-13     School on the 50th anniversary of her religious profession and

2-14     extend best wishes to her in the years ahead; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this

2-16     distinguished educator as a memento of this important milestone in

2-17     her life.
