1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 716

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

        1-3     recognizing Concepcion C. Rodriguez on the joyous occasion of

        1-4     her 90th birthday on July 25, 1997; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, Born July 25, 1907, in Darwin, Texas, Concepcion

        1-6     moved to Laredo while still a young girl; she married Jose Rodriguez,

        1-7     a Laredo businessman, in July of 1931; the couple had eight children

        1-8     and were married for 34 years until Mr. Rodriguez passed away; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, Mrs. Rodriguez has been privileged to witness

       1-10     events most of us only read about in history books; and

       1-11           WHEREAS, During her lifetime, she has witnessed two world

       1-12     wars, the invention of television, and the landing of astronauts

       1-13     on the moon; and

       1-14           WHEREAS, At the age of 69, Mrs. Rodriguez joined the Senior

       1-15     Community Service Employment Program, where she worked for 16

       1-16     years; she retired in February of 1992 at the age of 85; and

       1-17           WHEREAS, Today, she devotes her time to her home and yard

       1-18     and takes pleasure in the companionship of her family and friends;

       1-19     she now has 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; and

       1-20           WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community,

       1-21     Mrs. Rodriguez is  noted for her courage, her compassion for

       1-22     others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest;

       1-23     she will be honored with a family reunion to be held in

       1-24     Austin, Texas, on July 26, 1997, in celebration of her birthday;

        2-1     now, therefore, be it

        2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-3     75th Legislature, hereby join the family and friends of

        2-4     Concepcion Rodriguez in extending best wishes to her and

        2-5     congratulations on the grand occasion of her 90th birthday;

        2-6     and, be it further

        2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared

        2-8     for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
