1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 721 1-3 WHEREAS, The Manor High School girls' volleyball team 1-4 achieved outstanding success in 1996 by winning the District 1-5 18-3A championship, the bi-district area championship, and a 1-6 coveted place in the University Interscholastic League Regional 1-7 Tournament; and 1-8 WHEREAS, After completing district competition with only 1-9 one loss in district play, this superior team won a place in the 1-10 bi-district round one playoffs by defeating Lorena in two games 1-11 15-7, 15-8; and 1-12 WHEREAS, After its first round victory, the team went on to 1-13 play Westwood-Palestine in the area playoffs, defeating that team 1-14 in two games 15-9, 15-10 and earning the title of District 18-3A 1-15 Area Champions with an overall season record of 33-9; and 1-16 WHEREAS, After the area win, the team played in the regional 1-17 tournament against the Bellville Brahmanettes, an accomplishment 1-18 that no other Manor volleyball team has ever achieved in the history 1-19 of its volleyball program; the Lady Mustangs then lost to the 1-20 eventual state champions 15-7, 15-3 after a courageous fight; and 1-21 WHEREAS, These exemplary young women, Dayana Vega, 1-22 Melissa Robbins, Brandi Price, Gwen Ellis, Kylene Davis, 1-23 Jennifer Hempel, Jennifer Reyes, Tiffany Hernandez, Daiquiri Swain, 2-1 and Candice Galindo, along with their coaches and staff, are a 2-2 source of great pride to the students and faculty at Manor High 2-3 School and to their many supporters in the community, and their 2-4 superb accomplishments are indeed worthy of special legislative 2-5 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 75th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Manor High School 2-8 girls' volleyball team on its extraordinary achievements during 2-9 the 1996 season, including the District 18-3A title, the 2-10 bi-district championship, and its appearance in the University 2-11 Interscholastic League Regional Championship Tournament, and 2-12 extend to the team sincere best wishes for continued success in 2-13 the future; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-15 coaches and each team member, and for prominent display at Manor 2-16 High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate. 2-17 Barrientos 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 President of the Senate 2-20 I hereby certify that the above 2-21 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-22 on May 13, 1997. 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Secretary of the Senate 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 Member, Texas Senate
