1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 725 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Reby Cary on the occasion of the surprise "This Is 1-5 Your Life" celebration which is being hosted by the New Rising 1-6 Star Missionary Baptist Church; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Reby Cary graduated from Prairie View A&M University 1-8 in 1941 and served with the United States Coast Guard as a Radioman 1-9 First Class from 1942 to 1945; he earned a master's degree in 1-10 history and political science from Prairie View A&M University in 1-11 1948; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Mr. Cary began his career as an assistant professor 1-13 of history at Tarrant County Junior College; he served as an 1-14 assistant professor of history at The University of Texas at 1-15 Arlington from 1969 to 1978 and then served as the university's 1-16 director of minority affairs for three years; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A man of many talents and interests, Reby Cary 1-18 became licensed as a broker by the Texas Real Estate Commission 1-19 in 1980 and established Cary's Real Estate, the successful 1-20 business he continues to manage today; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Mr. Cary also became active in state politics and 1-22 was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1979, where 1-23 he served until 1985; he was chairman for the Budget and Oversight 2-1 Committee and was vice chairman of the Energy Committee; and 2-2 WHEREAS, A well-known Fort Worth civic leader, Mr. Cary 2-3 served on the board of the Fort Worth Independent School District 2-4 and served as president of the Fort Worth Metropolitan Black 2-5 Chamber of Commerce from 1984 to 1986; he is chairman of the 2-6 board of trustees for New Rising Star Baptist Church and served 2-7 as the president of the Texas Council of Black Republicans from 2-8 1986 to 1991; and 2-9 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman who is loved by his 2-10 friends and colleagues, Reby Cary gives generously of his time 2-11 and energy to his fellowman and to the Fort Worth community; he 2-12 is also a devoted family man who has the love and support of his 2-13 wife, Nadine Spencer Cary, and his daughter, Faith Cary Larkin; 2-14 now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 75th Legislature, hereby commend Reby Cary on his leadership 2-17 and his many accomplishments on behalf of the Fort Worth 2-18 community and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, 2-19 be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-21 for Reby Cary as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-22 West 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 President of the Senate 2-25 I hereby certify that the above 2-26 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-27 on May 13, 1997. 2-28 ______________________________________ 3-1 Secretary of the Senate 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Member, Texas Senate
