1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 734 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing Pat Esparza on her selection as the recipient of a 1-4 President's Service Award, the highest recognition given by the 1-5 president for volunteer service; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Pat Esparza is the creator of the Las Mariposas 1-7 dance group for at-risk youth in El Paso; she organized the dance 1-8 group in a poverty-stricken neighborhood known for gang violence 1-9 and drug dealing; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A talented and inspirational individual, Pat Esparza 1-11 instills in her dance students a sense of discipline, pride, and 1-12 self-respect; she also has helped area families by encouraging 1-13 neighborhood parents to attend support groups and parenting classes; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, Pat Esparza was recognized by President Clinton 1-16 at the Presidents' Summit for America's Future; she was one of 1-17 16 individuals or groups to receive a President's Service Award 1-18 from more than 3,500 nominations; now, therefore, be it 1-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-20 75th Legislature, hereby commend Pat Esparza on her exemplary 1-21 work and her dedication to the betterment of the community and 1-22 extend to her congratulations on earning the President's Service 1-23 Award; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-2 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-3 Shapleigh 2-4 ______________________________________ 2-5 President of the Senate 2-6 I hereby certify that the above 2-7 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-8 on May 14, 1997. 2-9 ______________________________________ 2-10 Secretary of the Senate 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 Member, Texas Senate
