1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 753

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

        1-3     recognize the Mamie Charity Club and Youth Auxiliary of Houston

        1-4     for its notable contributions to the lives of others; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, The organization is hosting its annual luncheon on

        1-6     May 17, 1997, at the Ramada Astrodome Medical Center Hotel in

        1-7     Houston to honor those individuals who have played a vital and

        1-8     significant role in the shaping of their communities; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, Among the honorees are Christians in Action from

       1-10     Houston and surrounding areas and from New York, Florida, Georgia,

       1-11     Louisiana, Washington, D.C., and Missouri; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, Christine Williams is the founder and president

       1-13     emeritus of the Mamie Charity Club and Youth Auxiliary; the

       1-14     organization is presently under the guiding hands of its president,

       1-15     Linda Garvie; and

       1-16           WHEREAS, Christians in Action being honored for their

       1-17     outstanding service are:  Raymond Baker, Reverend Terry Brown,

       1-18     Mr. and Mrs. Waymon O. Yancey, Mavis K. Dugas, Mattlyne W. Dukes,

       1-19     Alice Jones, Eunice Garner, Reverend and Mrs. Pete Hawkins,

       1-20     Ramona Brown, Reverend George Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Jones,

       1-21     Edward Randle, Reverend Evelene Jones, Reverend Estelle Littlejohn,

       1-22     Godfrey McCoy, Charles Mitchell, Anna Mitchell, O. B. Mitchell,

       1-23     Pierre Monette, Gwendolyn C. Moore, Vincent E. Poole,

        2-1     Reverend Larry J. Randle, Frances Remi, Ozella Roberts,

        2-2     Reverend J. W. Smith, Jr., Robbie Strather, Dr. Darlene Ruffin,

        2-3     Reverend Harry Shelby, Reverend Lloyd Smith, Sr., Dr. Marie Stellos,

        2-4     Ramona Conner, Margie P. Whitaker-Dixon, Roy Williams,

        2-5     and Gwendolyn Branch; now, therefore, be it

        2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-7     75th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the Mamie Charity

        2-8     Club for a most rewarding and enjoyable event; and, be it further

        2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

       2-10     distinguished group as an expression of the high regard of the

       2-11     Texas Senate.
