1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 761 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Printers Unlimited, Incorporated, which is celebrating 1-5 its acquisition of a new, state-of-the-art five-color waterless 1-6 press; the unveiling of the new press will be at a special ceremony 1-7 at the company on Saturday, May 17, 1997; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Owned by the pioneering Mirabal family, Printers 1-9 Unlimited was established in 1978, and it is one of the largest 1-10 commercial printers in South Texas; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Robert Mirabal, president and chief executive 1-12 officer, is from a family whose tradition in Texas goes back at 1-13 least three-quarters of a century; his father, Rodolfo Mirabal, Sr., 1-14 opened a printing shop, Mirabal Printing Company, next to his 1-15 parents' bakery in Corpus Christi in 1924; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Rodolfo was soon joined by his wife, Dora, and from 1-17 this humble beginning grew a thriving family business whose growth 1-18 and success was reflected by the success of Hispanics in Texas; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Rodolfo and Dora worked unstintingly and the business 1-20 grew into an organization which served the entire South Texas 1-21 community and extended to Mexico City's film industry; the client 1-22 list included: Mario Moreno "Cantinflas," Lyndon B. Johnson, and 1-23 Dr. Hector P. Garcia; and 2-1 WHEREAS, At the same time, Mrs. Mirabal began the publication 2-2 and printing of a newspaper, El Progresso; this was the first time 2-3 a Hispanic woman in Corpus Christi or South Texas had accomplished 2-4 such a venture; and 2-5 WHEREAS, With the death of Rodolfo Mirabal in 1968, it seemed 2-6 as if the family business might die out with him; Rudy Mirabal took 2-7 over the company and nurtured its growth for several years; when 2-8 the business was safely on solid ground, he accepted a lucrative 2-9 offer from Harte-Hanks Publishing; and 2-10 WHEREAS, In 1978, Robert Mirabal and his sister, 2-11 Rosie Mirabal Garza decided to resurrect the family tradition, and 2-12 they opened a small printing shop at 902 South Staples and named the 2-13 new business Garza-Mirabal Printers Unlimited; at first, the brother 2-14 and sister were the only employees; they had learned from their 2-15 father the wisdom of plowing back the first profits into the company 2-16 and always investing in the best equipment; in 1985, Rosie sold her 2-17 part to her brother so that she could spend more time serving her 2-18 beloved family and her community; her enthusiasm and acts of charity 2-19 earned her the titles of philanthropist, businesswoman, and civic 2-20 leader; and 2-21 WHEREAS, Robert's wife, Gracie, joined the company, and today 2-22 Printers Unlimited, Incorporated, has grown faster than any other 2-23 printing company in South Texas; and 2-24 WHEREAS, The important acquisition of the waterless press is 2-25 a landmark event and highlights the long history of excellent and 3-1 significant contributions to the community; the monetary investment 3-2 shows the company's commitment to the most modern technology; and 3-3 WHEREAS, In 1997, Printers Unlimited printed its first 3-4 hard-bound edition for the Tejano Music Awards which took place 3-5 in San Antonio; the successful company has been honored by the 3-6 Corpus Christi Advertising Foundation with its Addy award for 3-7 excellence in the field; and 3-8 WHEREAS, President and Chief Executive Officer of Printers 3-9 Unlimited, Incorporated, Robert Mirabal was designated an honorable 3-10 member in 1996's publication, Who's Who Among Outstanding Business 3-11 Executives; the Neenah Paper Gold Medal Award for excellence in 3-12 printing in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and Arkansas 3-13 was given to the company; and 3-14 WHEREAS, Robert Mirabal has worked to build a business as well 3-15 as to help his community by donating money, time, and work, thereby 3-16 earning him the title of philanthropist; Rodolfo and Dora Mirabal 3-17 are listed in the archives of Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi 3-18 for their pioneering contributions to South Texas; Rosie is on the 3-19 Foundation Board of Trustees and is Chair Emeritus of the President's 3-20 Council and a member of the Garcia Plaza Committee; now, therefore, 3-21 be it 3-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-23 75th Legislature, hereby honor Robert Mirabal, Rosie Mirabal Garza, 3-24 and Rodolfo Mirabal, Jr., for their outstanding achievements; and, 3-25 be it further 4-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 4-2 the family as an expression of the high regard and esteem of the 4-3 Texas Senate. 4-4 Truan 4-5 Armbrister Galloway Ogden 4-6 Barrientos Harris Patterson 4-7 Bivins Haywood Ratliff 4-8 Brown Lindsay Shapiro 4-9 Cain Lucio Shapleigh 4-10 Carona Luna Sibley 4-11 Duncan Madla Wentworth 4-12 Ellis Moncrief West 4-13 Fraser Nelson Whitmire 4-14 Gallegos Nixon Zaffirini 4-15 Bullock, President of the Senate 4-16 ______________________________________ 4-17 President of the Senate 4-18 I hereby certify that the above 4-19 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 4-20 on May 16, 1997. 4-21 ______________________________________ 4-22 Secretary of the Senate 4-23 ______________________________________ 4-24 Dean of the Senate
