 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 766

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to

 1-4     recognize Minerva R. Garcia, who is retiring after 37 years of

 1-5     loyal service to the Laredo Independent School District and to

 1-6     the nursing profession; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Minerva Garcia graduated from Laredo Independent

 1-8     School District's Martin High School and received her nursing

 1-9     degree from Saint Mary's School of Nursing in Galveston, Texas;

1-10     after working at Mercy Hospital, she joined Laredo Independent

1-11     School District as a school nurse in 1959; and

1-12           WHEREAS, She served as a nurse at several schools and became

1-13     director of Federal Nurses in 1975; in 1990, she became supervisor

1-14     of Health Services; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Devoted to the Laredo Independent School District

1-16     and to her work, Minerva Garcia has provided superior health care

1-17     for the youths of Laredo; and

1-18           WHEREAS, An exemplary lady who is a well-known leader in

1-19     the Laredo community, Minerva Garcia has been active in a number

1-20     of projects, such as Shots Across Texas, the Immunization Coalition,

1-21     and pilot programs for the School Base Clinics; and

1-22           WHEREAS, Through her wisdom, expertise, and friendly manner,

1-23     Mrs. Garcia has been a positive influence in the lives of her

 2-1     co-workers and her patients; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, In tribute to Mrs. Garcia's many years of loyalty

 2-3     and hard work, a retirement party is being held in her honor on

 2-4     May 21, 1997; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, The Laredo community has greatly benefitted from

 2-6     the diligence and generous spirit of this talented nurse and school

 2-7     district employee; now, therefore, be it

 2-8           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-9     75th Legislature, hereby commend Minerva Garcia for her

2-10     contributions to the people of Laredo and to the state and

2-11     extend to her best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and,

2-12     be it further

2-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-14     her as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate.
