 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 780

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to send

 1-4     greetings to the Reverend Clyde W. Chesnutt, Jr., who is retiring

 1-5     after 44 years of outstanding service to the United Methodist

 1-6     Church; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, The first full-time minister at Lake Travis United

 1-8     Methodist Church, he began his ministry there in 1989 when he was

 1-9     assigned that position by the Southwest Conference of the United

1-10     Methodist Church; and

1-11           WHEREAS, This outstanding minister served eight United

1-12     Methodist Churches in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, and Texas;

1-13     and

1-14           WHEREAS, The founding pastor of the United Methodist Church

1-15     in Estes Park, Colorado, he organized the construction of Wesley

1-16     Foundation buildings at Oklahoma University and Sul Ross State

1-17     University, a parsonage at Blanco United Methodist Church in

1-18     Blanco, Texas, and the Lake Travis United Methodist Church

1-19     building; and

1-20           WHEREAS, A graduate of Oklahoma University, this

1-21     distinguished gentleman redeemed himself by graduating from

1-22     the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University;

1-23     and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Since he began as pastor at Lake Travis United

 2-2     Methodist Church, membership in the church has grown from the

 2-3     founding families to over 500 members; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Inspirational and caring, this pastor has unselfishly

 2-5     dedicated his time and energy to the members of his church and his

 2-6     community; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, It is indeed appropriate that the Texas Senate

 2-8     recognize this outstanding pastor on the auspicious occasion of

 2-9     his retirement; now, therefore, be it

2-10           RESOLVED, That the Texas Senate hereby congratulate the

2-11     Reverend Clyde W. Chesnutt, Jr., on his successful career and his

2-12     retirement and extend best wishes for many happy retirement years

2-13     to come; and, be it further

2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

2-15     Reverend Chesnutt as an expression of the high regard and esteem

2-16     of the Texas Senate.
