1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 781

        1-2           WHEREAS, Public works services are an integral part of our

        1-3     everyday lives; the health, safety, and comfort of our communities

        1-4     greatly depend on these facilities and services; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, The quality and effectiveness of public facilities,

        1-6     as well as their planning, design, and construction, are vitally

        1-7     dependent upon the efforts and skill of public works officials;

        1-8     and

        1-9           WHEREAS, The efficiency of the qualified and dedicated

       1-10     personnel who staff public works departments is influenced by

       1-11     public attitude and understanding of the importance of the work

       1-12     they perform; and

       1-13           WHEREAS, The support of an understanding and informed

       1-14     citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works

       1-15     systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets and highways,

       1-16     public buildings, and solid waste collection; and

       1-17           WHEREAS, The Texas Chapter of the American Public Works

       1-18     Association, in conjunction with public works officials across

       1-19     North America, will celebrate National Public Works Week during

       1-20     the week of May 18 through 24, 1997; now, therefore, be it

       1-21           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

       1-22     75th Legislature, hereby recognize all who are employed in

       1-23     the field of public works for their efforts and welcome them

        2-1     to the City of Austin to celebrate National Public Works Week;

        2-2     and, be it further

        2-3           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

        2-4     distinguished group as an expression of the appreciation and high

        2-5     regard of the Texas Senate.
