1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 794

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

        1-3     recognizing Chalio Acosta, an outstanding citizen of our state and

        1-4     of the City of El Paso; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, Born September 4, 1926, in El Paso, Chalio Acosta has

        1-6     been married for 48 years to Eva Acosta and is the father of five

        1-7     children; he was employed with a large distributor of construction

        1-8     materials for 26 years, was a salesman for Continental Bond for six

        1-9     years, and was self-employed in the export business for seven years;

       1-10     and

       1-11           WHEREAS, He is a well-known El Paso civic leader who was

       1-12     elected to the position of City Representative District III, East

       1-13     Central District, on June 5, 1993; his chief cause is organizing

       1-14     athletic events for disadvantaged youths; he is president of the

       1-15     Delta Softball League; and

       1-16           WHEREAS, Mr. Acosta is a man of many talents and interests

       1-17     who gives generously of his time to his community; he is a member

       1-18     of the El Paso Optimist Club and has counseled victims of crime

       1-19     through special programs in the district attorney's office; he has

       1-20     served on the City Community Development Steering Committee, the

       1-21     City Zoological Board, and the City Parks and Recreation Board; and

       1-22           WHEREAS, He was named the El Paso Optimist Club 1988 Rookie

       1-23     of the Year and was selected for the El Paso Softball Hall of Fame;

        2-1     he has a certificate of participation in the International Games

        2-2     with El Paso and Juarez; and

        2-3           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman,

        2-4     Chalio Acosta has played a significant role in the betterment of

        2-5     the El Paso community, and he is a mentor and source of strength

        2-6     to countless youths; now, therefore, be it

        2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-8     75th Legislature, hereby commend Chalio Acosta on his accomplishments

        2-9     and his contributions to the City of El Paso and extend best wishes

       2-10     to him for the future; and, be it further

       2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him

       2-12     as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
