1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 798

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas is pleased to recognize

        1-3     Sean Redden of Denton, Texas, who recently helped save the life

        1-4     of a woman from Finland; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, At first, Sean, a 12-year-old young man who was on

        1-6     the Internet, thought the message he was receiving was a joke; he

        1-7     saw pain and sob messages on his computer screen and decided to

        1-8     take them seriously; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, After notifying his mother and getting help

       1-10     from Denton County sheriff's dispatchers, Finnish paramedics,

       1-11     and international telephone operators, Sean helped the business

       1-12     student who sent the message; she was rescued from a locked room

       1-13     in Kerava, Finland; and

       1-14           WHEREAS, Tarja Laitinen, the Finnish woman, had stayed late

       1-15     in the computer lab and had gotten locked in; an asthmatic, she

       1-16     began to have difficulty breathing and typed that she was getting

       1-17     worse rapidly; and

       1-18           WHEREAS, Finally, an ambulance crew was sent to the Finnish

       1-19     school, but they were having trouble locating the young woman who

       1-20     kept relaying her location to guide the crew; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, The last message sent from Tarja Laitinen was that

       1-22     she could hear the paramedics in the hall; then Tarja's sign on

       1-23     disappeared; and

        2-1           WHEREAS, A few days later, Interpol notified authorities that

        2-2     the Finnish woman was now all right; Sean had helped save her life;

        2-3     now, therefore, be it

        2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-5     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Sean Redden on his

        2-6     achievement and wish him well in the future; and, be it further

        2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared

        2-8     for him as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
