1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 821

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure

        1-3     in recognizing Yolanda Arteaga for her selection as a finalist

        1-4     for the El Paso Independent School District 1997 Teacher of the

        1-5     Year; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, Yolanda Arteaga is a teacher at Maxine L. Silva

        1-7     Health Magnet High School; she has been a teacher for 15 years

        1-8     and currently teaches chemistry to 10th and 11th graders; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, A dedicated teacher with innovative instructional

       1-10     strategies, Yolanda Arteaga is an enthusiastic educator who has

       1-11     assisted with a wide array of student activities over the years;

       1-12     and

       1-13           WHEREAS, She is a member of the Campus Improvement Team and

       1-14     the Attrition Team and is cosponsor of the National Honor Society;

       1-15     she is a sponsor of the cheerleaders and has assisted with the

       1-16     school Science Fair; and

       1-17           WHEREAS, Her teaching strategies include the use of peer

       1-18     teaching, cooperative learning, and student presentations; she

       1-19     was selected as the 1997 Maxine L. Silva Health Magnet School

       1-20     Teacher of the Year; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, Students of Yolanda Arteaga have greatly

       1-22     benefitted from her skillful teaching methods and her concern

       1-23     for the individual; she has armed her pupils with the skills

        2-1     necessary to compete in the society of tomorrow; now, therefore,

        2-2     be it

        2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-4     75th Legislature, hereby commend Yolanda Arteaga on her

        2-5     contributions to the students of the El Paso Independent School

        2-6     District and extend best wishes to her for the years ahead; and,

        2-7     be it further

        2-8           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-9     her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
