1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 823

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure

        1-3     in recognizing Glenna Beavers for her selection as a finalist for

        1-4     the El Paso Independent School District 1997 Teacher of the Year

        1-5     title; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, Glenna Beavers is a fourth-grade teacher at

        1-7     Alta Vista Elementary School; she has 38 years of teaching

        1-8     experience and has recently completed her District Gifted

        1-9     Certification; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, A dedicated teacher with innovative instructional

       1-11     strategies, Glenna Beavers is an enthusiastic educator who has

       1-12     assisted with a wide array of student activities over the years;

       1-13     and

       1-14           WHEREAS, She is a member of the Campus Gifted and Talented

       1-15     Committee and of the Campus Improvement Team; she serves as a

       1-16     technology liaison at Alta Vista and has served as a cooperating

       1-17     teacher for student teachers from The University of Texas at El Paso;

       1-18     and

       1-19           WHEREAS, Her instructional strategies include use of

       1-20     cooperative learning, hands-on activities in mathematics, and

       1-21     writing across the curriculum; she was responsible for developing

       1-22     the format for the first Alta Vista Learning Calendar; and

       1-23           WHEREAS, Students of Glenna Beavers have greatly

        2-1     benefitted from her skillful teaching methods and her concern for

        2-2     the individual; she has armed her pupils with the skills necessary

        2-3     to compete in the society of tomorrow; now, therefore, be it

        2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-5     75th Legislature, hereby commend Glenna Beavers on her

        2-6     contributions to the students of the El Paso Independent School

        2-7     District and extend best wishes to her for the years ahead; and,

        2-8     be it further

        2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

       2-10     her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
