 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 831

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to honor Paul Pettie

 1-4     on his noteworthy achievement in attaining the rank of

 1-5     Eagle Scout, for he has shown great dedication to the high ideals

 1-6     of scouting and commendable perseverance in his pursuit of this

 1-7     worthy goal; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, The son of Ron and Deborah Pettie, this highly

 1-9     motivated young man has long been a source of immense pride to his

1-10     family and to his fellow scouts in Boy Scout Troop 890; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Eagle Scout Pettie has demonstrated exemplary

1-12     leadership skills as patrol leader and troop historian, and during

1-13     the course of his scouting career he has earned 41 merit badges, as

1-14     well as the World Conservation Award, the Historic Trails Award,

1-15     the Fifty Miler Afloat Award, and the BSA Snorkeling Award; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Determined to take advantage of all the opportunities

1-17     that scouting provides, he attended the Sea Base High Adventure

1-18     Camp and Camp Wisdom, and his considerable knowledge and expertise

1-19     earned him induction into the Order of the Arrow; and

1-20           WHEREAS, For his Eagle Scout project, this industrious young

1-21     man organized a project at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church

1-22     to clean up debris, build a pavestone walkway, and correct faulty

1-23     drainage in the church's courtyard; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Mr. Pettie is an honors student at Lake Highlands

 2-2     High School, where he is completing his senior year, and in

 2-3     addition to his pursuit of academic excellence, he devotes his

 2-4     time and energy to such diverse organizations as the Wildcat

 2-5     Wranglers Dance Team, SADD, the Exchange Club, and the A Cappella

 2-6     Choir; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, He is also an accomplished magician, having performed

 2-8     on stage since the age of 10, and his prestidigitation at the annual

 2-9     Texas Association of Magicians convention in San Antonio earned him

2-10     a second-place award in the junior division; and

2-11           WHEREAS, Receiving the Eagle Scout badge is an extremely rare

2-12     honor, bestowed on only a small percentage of those who enter the

2-13     scouting movement, and by successfully fulfilling the rank's

2-14     demanding criteria, Paul Pettie has achieved a feat that is truly

2-15     worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

2-16           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-17     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Paul Pettie on attaining

2-18     the rank of Eagle Scout and extend to him sincere best wishes for

2-19     continued success and happiness in the future; and, be it further

2-20           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

2-21     prepared for Eagle Scout Pettie as an expression of high regard

2-22     by the Texas Senate.
