1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 840 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing 1-4 Rodolfo Omar Garza on the momentous occasion of his graduation 1-5 with the degree of Medical Doctor from The University of Texas 1-6 Health Science Center at San Antonio on May 24, 1997; and 1-7 WHEREAS, His family and friends are justly proud of this 1-8 hardworking and intelligent student and his achievement of this 1-9 goal; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Born February 26, 1969, as the first child of 1-11 Attorney G. Rudolph Garza, Jr., and Maria Nora Garza, Rudy attended 1-12 the public schools of Corpus Christi and its Athena program for 1-13 academically gifted students, specifically, Windsor Park Elementary, 1-14 Baker Middle School, where his mother is an assistant principal, 1-15 and Mary Carroll High School; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Rudy went on to attend and graduated from 1-17 The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's degree in 1-18 biology in May, 1992; and 1-19 WHEREAS, After acceptance for the study of medicine by 1-20 The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, 1-21 Rudy Garza worked at the Mexican American Research Effectiveness 1-22 Center, where he studied under Dr. Jacqueline Pugh, assisted in 1-23 clinical research, and wrote scientific articles about Diabetes 2-1 Mellitus; and 2-2 WHEREAS, As a Bartter Scholar in Clinical Research, Dr. Garza 2-3 received an Honors designation for Obstetrical rotation as well as 2-4 the Highest Recommendation for Medicine rotation; and 2-5 WHEREAS, This industrious and bright young man has worked 2-6 diligently to fulfill his dream to become a physician and will 2-7 continue his medical studies in the residency program in Internal 2-8 Medicine at The University Hospital System in San Antonio; and 2-9 WHEREAS, In completing the requirements for graduating from 2-10 this highly esteemed institution, Dr. Garza brings great pride to 2-11 himself, his wife, the former Maricela Carter of San Antonio, his 2-12 baby daughter, Victoria Elena, and the rest of his immediate and 2-13 extended family, his community, and his state; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 75th Legislature, hereby congratulate and commend Rodolfo Omar Garza 2-16 on his graduation from medical school and wish him well in the 2-17 future; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared for 2-19 Dr. Garza, his mother and father, Dr. John Prentice Howe III, 2-20 President of The University of Texas Health Science Center at 2-21 San Antonio, and Dr. Abelardo Saavedra, Superintendent of the 2-22 Corpus Christi Independent School District as an expression of 2-23 the highest regard of the Texas Senate for this outstanding 2-24 academic achievement. 2-25 Truan 3-1 Armbrister Galloway Ogden 3-2 Barrientos Harris Patterson 3-3 Bivins Haywood Ratliff 3-4 Brown Lindsay Shapiro 3-5 Cain Lucio Shapleigh 3-6 Carona Luna Sibley 3-7 Duncan Madla Wentworth 3-8 Ellis Moncrief West 3-9 Fraser Nelson Whitmire 3-10 Gallegos Nixon Zaffirini 3-11 Bullock, President of the Senate 3-12 ______________________________________ 3-13 President of the Senate 3-14 I hereby certify that the above 3-15 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-16 on May 23, 1997. 3-17 ______________________________________ 3-18 Secretary of the Senate 3-19 ______________________________________ 3-20 Dean of the Senate
