1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 843 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Robert J. Lang 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-6 citizens of Dalhart in mourning the passing of Robert J. Lang, 1-7 who died March 15, 1997, at the age of 62; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Bob was born in Ware, Texas, and graduated from 1-9 Dalhart High School in 1953; he played on the Dalhart Wolves 1-10 football team for three years and was active in the National Guard; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, Mr. Lang returned to his hometown and began driving 1-13 a gas transport truck; he built the first Humble Service Station 1-14 in Dalhart and owned the Humble station in Texline; and 1-15 WHEREAS, His career took a different path in 1957 when he 1-16 went to work for the Dalhart Texan, beginning as an apprentice 1-17 and working his way up to pressman and mechanical supervisor; 1-18 before his retirement in 1993, Bob and his wife, Zelda, owned 1-19 one-third of the newspaper; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Awarded the Eagle Scout Badge as a young man, 1-21 Bob continued to be very active in the Boy Scouts of America, 1-22 especially when his sons were involved in scouting; and 1-23 WHEREAS, His creativity found expression in his woodwork 2-1 after his retirement, and he made beautiful gifts for relatives 2-2 and friends; the XIT Museum displayed several of his works of 2-3 intarsia in 1995; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to his 2-6 bereaved family: his wife, Zelda; his children, Debra Beth Ford, 2-7 Robert Alan Lang, and Joe Richard Lang; and his nine grandchildren 2-8 and great-granddaughter; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his 2-10 family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, 2-11 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-12 Robert J.
