1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 849

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

        1-3     express its appreciation to Arnulfo Zamora, Jr., for his 47 years

        1-4     of devoted service to education in Laredo; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, Born on September 2, 1925, in Laredo, Texas, Zam was

        1-6     educated in Laredo public schools, attended Laredo Junior College

        1-7     and Texas A&M University at College Station, and received his

        1-8     bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&I University in

        1-9     Kingsville; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, A lifelong patriot, he served his country honorably

       1-11     in the United States Air Force; from 1957 to 1973, Mr. Zamora

       1-12     was an educator for the Student Pilot Training Program at Laredo

       1-13     Air Force Base, and he wrote a training manual for physical fitness;

       1-14     and

       1-15           WHEREAS, Becoming the Athletic Director for Laredo Independent

       1-16     School District, he served in this position from 1973 to 1987; for

       1-17     the last 10 years, he has been Supervisor of the district's

       1-18     Secondary Physical Education and Recreation department; and

       1-19           WHEREAS, A public-spirited citizen, Mr. Zamora served on the

       1-20     City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Board; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, A devout Catholic, he has been married to

       1-22     Delia Davila for 49 years, and their daughter, Delia Salinas, and

       1-23     their grandson, Carlos Salinas, have been the source of great pride

        2-1     and joy; and

        2-2           WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman was inducted into the

        2-3     Latin American Hall of Fame and State of Texas Athletic Directors

        2-4     Hall of Fame for his contributions to athletics and was named

        2-5     Sportsman of the Year; now, therefore, be it

        2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-7     75th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Arnulfo Zamora, Jr.,

        2-8     on the momentous occasion of his retirement and wish him luck in

        2-9     all his future endeavors; and, be it further

       2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

       2-11     Mr. Zamora as an expression of the admiration and esteem of the

       2-12     Texas Senate.
