1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 855

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in

        1-3     recognizing Charles C. Walden for his selection as a finalist for

        1-4     the El Paso Independent School District 1997 Teacher of the Year

        1-5     title; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, Mr. Walden teaches behavior intervention classes

        1-7     at Terrace Hills Middle School and is in his fourth year of

        1-8     teaching with the school district; he earned a bachelor of arts

        1-9     degree in math from Ripon College in 1967 and a master of arts

       1-10     degree in psychology from The University of Texas at El Paso in

       1-11     1974; he also holds a special education certificate for grades

       1-12     prekindergarten through 12; and

       1-13           WHEREAS, A dedicated teacher with innovative instructional

       1-14     strategies, Charles Walden is an enthusiastic educator who has

       1-15     assisted with a wide array of student activities over the years;

       1-16     and

       1-17           WHEREAS, A member of the Council for Exceptional Children,

       1-18     Mr. Walden has coauthored a curriculum guide for teaching social

       1-19     skills for the district and has been involved in training workshops

       1-20     for behavior modification; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, He completed training in 1996 in the Dupont Campus

       1-22     Improvement Team program and is a facilitator for the 1996-1997

       1-23     school year; he is chaplain and coordinator for Sigma Tau Chapter

        2-1     of Omega Phi Fraternity's community service project for at-risk

        2-2     students; and

        2-3           WHEREAS, Students of Terrace Hills Middle School have greatly

        2-4     benefitted from his skillful teaching methods and his concern for

        2-5     the individual; he has armed his pupils with the skills necessary

        2-6     to compete in the society of tomorrow; now, therefore, be it

        2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-8     75th Legislature, hereby commend Charles C. Walden on his

        2-9     contributions to the students of the El Paso Independent School

       2-10     District and extend best wishes to him for the years ahead; and,

       2-11     be it further

       2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

       2-13     him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
