1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 857
1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
1-3 in recognizing Roger A. Winter for his selection as a finalist for
1-4 the El Paso Independent School District 1997 Teacher of the Year
1-5 title; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Winter is a teacher at El Paso High School,
1-7 where he is an instructor in mathematics and head wrestling coach;
1-8 and
1-9 WHEREAS, A dedicated teacher with innovative instructional
1-10 strategies, Roger Winter is an enthusiastic educator who has assisted
1-11 with a wide array of student activities over the years; and
1-12 WHEREAS, He has been an El Paso High School volunteer tutor,
1-13 the homework hotline mathematics tutor, and the high school's TAAS
1-14 tutor; and
1-15 WHEREAS, An imaginative instructor, he designed and
1-16 implemented a Math Jeopardy game to help students enjoy reviewing
1-17 for math exams; he has instituted student-led instruction in which
1-18 the student prepares a lesson plan that Mr. Winter reviews and
1-19 approves before the pupil teaches the lesson during class; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Students of Mr. Winter have greatly benefitted from
1-21 his skillful teaching methods and his concern for the individual;
1-22 he has armed his pupils with the skills necessary to compete in the
1-23 society of tomorrow; now, therefore, be it
2-1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-2 75th Legislature, hereby commend Roger A. Winter on his contributions
2-3 to the students of the El Paso Independent School District and extend
2-4 best wishes to him for the years ahead; and, be it further
2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
2-6 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
