1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 859

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pleasure

        1-3     in recognizing Leslie Hilverding, librarian for Schuster Elementary

        1-4     School, on being named Elementary Teacher of the Year in the El Paso

        1-5     Independent School District; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, A teacher with eight years of experience in the

        1-7     El Paso Independent School District, Leslie Hilverding received a

        1-8     cash award and an engraved clock from the district's board of

        1-9     trustees at the annual awards dinner on May 7, 1997; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, A librarian who puts fun into her teaching of library

       1-11     skills, the award winner creates a feeling of excitement in the

       1-12     library; responsible for the creation, development, and presentation

       1-13     of the "Come Read With Me" television program, she feels that a

       1-14     well-run library will not necessarily be a quiet place because

       1-15     learning at all levels is happening; children are discovering the

       1-16     wonderful world of books; and

       1-17           WHEREAS, The students of Miss Hilverding have greatly

       1-18     benefitted from her skillful teaching methods and her concern for

       1-19     the individual, and she has supplied her pupils with the skills

       1-20     necessary to compete in the society of tomorrow; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, Well loved by her students, Miss Hilverding is

       1-22     certainly worthy of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

       1-23           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-1     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Leslie Hilverding on her

        2-2     designation as the 1997 Elementary Teacher of the Year in the

        2-3     El Paso Independent School District; and, be it further

        2-4           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her

        2-5     as an expression of the high esteem and respect of the Texas Senate.
