 1-5                                Raul Alderete

 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens

 1-7     of San Antonio in mourning the untimely loss of Raul Alderete, who

 1-8     died May 18, 1997, at the age of 22; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Born January 2, 1975, Raul graduated from Lanier High

1-10     School, where he excelled in his studies and in extracurricular

1-11     activities, such as football and chess; he attended Saint Phillip's

1-12     College and majored in political science; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Raul's passion was grassroots politics; he believed

1-14     it was important that the cries of the destitute and impoverished

1-15     be heard in the political arena, and he was dedicated to the idea

1-16     of working toward that goal; and

1-17           WHEREAS, He worked hard in several campaigns, including the

1-18     campaigns of Victor Morales, Henry Gonzalez, and Richard Fisher,

1-19     and he dreamed of someday becoming a lawyer and running for public

1-20     office; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Raul was a unique individual with a warm and engaging

1-22     personality; he was beloved by his fellow students and teachers and

1-23     was admired for his many talents and ambitions; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, An exemplary and industrious young man, Raul was

 2-2     respected in the community for his many accomplishments and for

 2-3     his devotion to his work in politics; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, compassion, and

 2-5     generosity, he gave unselfishly of his time to others, and he will

 2-6     long be remembered for his optimism, his warmth, and his sincerity,

 2-7     as well as for his motto "Que do it!"; and

 2-8           WHEREAS, Raul Alderete lived his life to the fullest, and he

 2-9     leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family

2-10     and many friends; now, therefore, be it

2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-12     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved

2-13     family of Raul Alderete; and, be it further

2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

2-15     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the

2-16     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so

2-17     in memory of Raul Alderete.
