1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 879

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

        1-3     recognizing the Texas Kennel Club on the grand occasion of its

        1-4     100th year anniversary which is being celebrated the week of

        1-5     March 15 through 21, 1998; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, Founded in 1898, the Texas Kennel Club serves

        1-7     the greater Dallas area and is the third oldest kennel club in

        1-8     continuous operation in the United States; it is a nonprofit

        1-9     organization dedicated to the advancement of all purebred dogs

       1-10     through exhibition and education; and

       1-11           WHEREAS, The Texas Kennel Club conducts dog shows, matches,

       1-12     and obedience trials under the auspices of the American Kennel

       1-13     Club; the organization has a Pet Memorial Fund which provides for

       1-14     the purchase and placement of books on dogs and other pets in the

       1-15     Dallas Public Library System; and

       1-16           WHEREAS, The Texas Kennel Club publishes an all-breed

       1-17     directory and supports the rescue of abandoned pets through

       1-18     breeders and rescue shelters; it contributes to the Dallas Task

       1-19     Force on Solutions for Pet Over-Population and helps animal

       1-20     control officials to write statutes about the control of

       1-21     dangerous animals; and

       1-22           WHEREAS, The 100th year celebration will consist of four days

       1-23     of shows and exhibitions and will include 10 to 15 national breed

        2-1     specialties, 31-35 regional specialties, and two all-breed dog

        2-2     shows; there will be demonstrations by seeing eye dogs and hearing

        2-3     dogs, a parade of rescue dogs, and a showcase of rare breeds; now,

        2-4     therefore, be it

        2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-6     75th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the Texas Kennel

        2-7     Club for its contributions to our state and declare March 15

        2-8     through 21, 1998, Texas Kennel Club Week; and, be it further

        2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

       2-10     Texas Kennel Club as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
