                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Texas, That

 1-2     Senate Rule 12.03 is suspended, as provided by Senate Rule 12.08,

 1-3     to enable the Senate to the extent described in this resolution to

 1-4     permit the conference committee appointed to adjust the differences

 1-5     between the house and senate versions of H.B. No. 2542, relating to

 1-6     the regulation of parks and wildlife and providing penalties, to

 1-7     successfully conclude the committee's deliberations, by authorizing

 1-8     the conferees to consider and take action as follows:

 1-9           Subdivision (4), Senate Rule 12.03, is suspended to permit

1-10     the committee to add SECTION 127 to the bill to read as follows:

1-11           SECTION 127.  (a)  Not later than October 1, 1997, the Parks

1-12     and Wildlife Department shall submit to the legislature a report

1-13     describing the actions the department has taken, and the actions

1-14     the department plans to take during the 1998-1999 biennium, to

1-15     address deficiencies in maintenance, operational support, and

1-16     promotion of historic structures, sites, and parks under the

1-17     department's jurisdiction. The report shall respond in detail to

1-18     the findings and recommendations included in the study of state

1-19     historic sites conducted for the department and the Texas

1-20     Historical Commission by KPMG Peat Marwick, L.L.P., and submitted

1-21     to those agencies in January 1997.

1-22           (b)  Copies of the department's report shall be delivered to

1-23     the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of

1-24     representatives, and the presiding officers of the senate and house

 2-1     standing committees having jurisdiction over matters relating to

 2-2     preservation of state historic structures, sites, and parks.

 2-3           This change is necessary to require the Parks and Wildlife

 2-4     Department to respond to a report regarding the administration of

 2-5     historic sites.
