1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 887

        1-2           WHEREAS, Onnie Slate and J. F. Kirkman placed great faith

        1-3     and trust in the future when they married on March 11, 1947, in

        1-4     Amarillo, Texas, and they have been amply rewarded as they recently

        1-5     celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, The world has changed considerably during the years

        1-7     of their marriage, yet Mr. and Mrs. Kirkman of Quinlan, Texas,

        1-8     have steadfastly embraced traditional family and moral values; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, Over the years, they have grown stronger in their love

       1-10     and devotion as together they have experienced the joys and sorrows

       1-11     of everyday living; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, Honorable work has honorable rewards for the family

       1-13     and community; Onnie Slate Kirkman retired after her life's service

       1-14     as a nurse, and J. F. Kirkman made his distinguished work as a

       1-15     farmer and as a rancher; and

       1-16           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Kirkman have been blessed with a

       1-17     wonderful family; their children, Harry Kirkman of Canadian,

       1-18     Diana Howell of Amarillo, Dennis Kirkman of Quinlan, Dean Kirkman

       1-19     of Dallas, and Charles Kirkman of Euless, and their six

       1-20     grandchildren and one great-grandchild have been a source of much

       1-21     pride and joy; and

       1-22           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Kirkman shared their happiness with

       1-23     their family and friends at a dinner celebration in Dallas hosted

        2-1     by their children; and

        2-2           WHEREAS, The long and happy union of Mr. and Mrs. Kirkman is

        2-3     truly an inspiration to us all; now, therefore, be it

        2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-5     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere congratulations to

        2-6     Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Kirkman on their golden wedding anniversary;

        2-7     and, be it further

        2-8           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-9     this distinguished couple as a memento of this special day in

       2-10     their lives.
