1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 893

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

        1-3     recognizing the Terrell County Independent School District on its

        1-4     selection as a winner in the 1997 Awards for Excellence in

        1-5     Texas School Health; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, The Terrell County Independent School District

        1-7     received the Excellence Award in the districtwide category for the

        1-8     district's health promotion project, "The Eagle Wellness Program";

        1-9     and

       1-10           WHEREAS, The goal of the Awards for Excellence in Texas

       1-11     School Health program is to recognize Texas schools and school

       1-12     districts for their creative and innovative efforts to improve

       1-13     the health of their students, staff, and parents; and

       1-14           WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Health sponsors the Awards

       1-15     for Excellence program in cooperation with the Texas Education

       1-16     Agency and the Texas Cancer Council; the program receives financial

       1-17     assistance from the Texas Health Foundation; and

       1-18           WHEREAS, Schools and school districts that qualify for

       1-19     awards will receive cash benefits; the awards will be presented

       1-20     on June 5, 1997, at a banquet that is being held in conjunction

       1-21     with the annual ALL WELL School Health Promotion Conference; now,

       1-22     therefore, be it

       1-23           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-1     75th Legislature, hereby commend the Terrell County Independent

        2-2     School District on its excellent health promotion project and

        2-3     extend congratulations to the district on its selection as a

        2-4     winner in the 1997 Awards for Excellence in Texas School Health

        2-5     program; and, be it further

        2-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-7     the Terrell Independent School District as an expression of esteem

        2-8     from the Texas Senate.
