1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 900 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 joining the citizens of Rockwall in recognizing United States 1-5 Congressman Ralph Moody Hall as the First Annual Friend of the 1-6 Rockwall Hot Air Balloon and Jalapeno Festival and in declaring 1-7 Saturday, June 7, 1997, Ralph Hall Day in Texas; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring 1-9 the Rockwall Hot Air Balloon and Jalapeno Festival June 6 through 8 1-10 and has chosen the event as an occasion to honor Representative Hall 1-11 for his exceptional work in public office; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Born in Rockwall County, Ralph Hall graduated from 1-13 Rockwall High School, attended The University of Texas, and received 1-14 his law degree from Southern Methodist University; he served as an 1-15 aircraft carrier pilot during World War II; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Representative Hall's early career included serving 1-17 as County Judge of Rockwall County from 1950 to 1962 and serving in 1-18 the Texas Senate from 1961 to 1972; he was the founding chairman 1-19 of Lakeside National Bank in Rockwall and was a member of a law 1-20 firm in Rockwall where two of his sons practice law; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Representative Hall was first elected to the 1-22 United States House of Representatives in 1980; he has been 1-23 reelected to each succeeding Congress as the representative of 2-1 the Fourth Congressional District in Texas; and 2-2 WHEREAS, A man of extensive expertise, Congressman Hall 2-3 serves on the Commerce Committee and is the ranking Democrat of 2-4 its Energy and Power Subcommittee; he serves on the Health and 2-5 Environment Subcommittee, and the Finance and Hazardous Materials 2-6 Subcommittee; he also serves on the Science Committee and its Space 2-7 Subcommittee; and 2-8 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Congressman Hall is dedicated 2-9 to his work on behalf of his state and his country and has 2-10 distinguished himself in his career as a Congressman; his many 2-11 accomplishments are a source of much pride to his family, the 2-12 Rockwall community, and the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 75th Legislature, hereby commend Congressman Ralph Hall on his 2-15 exceptional achievements and highly successful career and extend 2-16 best wishes to him for a festive Ralph Hall Day in Texas; and, be 2-17 it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-19 Representative Hall as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-20 Cain 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on May 28, 1997. 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Secretary of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Member, Texas Senate
