 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 915

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers

 1-4     of Commerce (TAMACC) is conducting its 22nd Annual State Convention

 1-5     on July 24 through July 26, 1997, in the City of Corpus Christi,

 1-6     better known as the "Sparkling City by the Sea"; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, TAMACC was founded in 1975 to promote business

 1-8     leadership, economic opportunity, and legislative advocacy at the

 1-9     local, state, and national levels on issues of importance to the

1-10     Hispanic community; and

1-11           WHEREAS, TAMACC is comprised of chambers of commerce

1-12     in 27 cities in Texas, representing 11,500 members; the annual

1-13     convention represents the largest gathering of Hispanic business

1-14     owners in the state; and

1-15           WHEREAS, There are over 156,000 Hispanic-owned businesses

1-16     in Texas that generate $11.8 billion in annual sales and employ

1-17     approximately 140,000 workers with an annual payroll of

1-18     $1.9 billion; and

1-19           WHEREAS, The Hispanic business community in the

1-20     State of Texas is one of the most numerous and prosperous in

1-21     the entire United States of America; and

1-22           WHEREAS, TAMACC encourages opportunities in local, state,

1-23     and international commerce, community affairs, and educational

 2-1     and professional development for Hispanic business owners; now,

 2-2     therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-4     75th Legislature, hereby recognize the accomplishments of

 2-5     TAMACC during the Association's 22nd Annual Convention for

 2-6     leading the way in "Empowering the Hispanic Business Community

 2-7     of Texas"; and, be it further

 2-8           RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared

 2-9     for Massy Villareal, the Chairman of the Board of TAMACC, and

2-10     Juan J. Salinas, the Chairman of the Corpus Christi Hispanic

2-11     Chamber of Commerce, on this notable occasion as an expression

2-12     of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
