No. 932 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-1 BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Texas, 75th 1-2 Legislature, Regular Session, 1997, That Senate Rule 12.03 be 1-3 suspended in part as provided by Senate Rule 12.08 to enable the 1-4 conference committee appointed to resolve the differences on House 1-5 Bill No. 318 to consider and take action on the following specific 1-6 matter: 1-7 Senate Rule 12.03(4) is suspended to permit the committee to 1-8 add Section 12.1011, Education Code, to read as follows: 1-9 Sec. 12.1011. PUBLIC EDUCATION GRANT CHARTERS. (a) In 1-10 addition to the other charters authorized under this subchapter, in 1-11 accordance with this subchapter the State Board of Education may 1-12 grant: 1-13 (1) not more than 100 charters for open-enrollment 1-14 charter schools that adopt an express policy providing for the 1-15 admission of students eligible for a public education grant under 1-16 Subchapter G, Chapter 29; and 1-17 (2) additional charters for open-enrollment charter 1-18 schools for which at least 75 percent of the prospective student 1-19 population, as specified in the proposed charter, will be students 1-20 who have dropped out of school or are at risk of dropping out of 1-21 school as defined by Section 29.081. 1-22 (b) An open-enrollment charter school granted a charter 1-23 under this section may serve students who are not eligible for a 2-1 public education grant under Subchapter G, Chapter 29, but a school 2-2 granted a charter under Subsection (a)(2) must maintain, as a 2-3 condition of its charter, the required percentage of students. 2-4 Explanation: This change is necessary to permit the 2-5 committee to permit the State Board of Education to authorize 2-6 additional open-enrollment charter schools to serve students who 2-7 are eligible for public education grants, who have dropped out of 2-8 school, or who are at risk of dropping out of school. 2-9 ______________________________________ 2-10 President of the Senate 2-11 I hereby certify that the above 2-12 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-13 on May 29, 1997, by the following vote: 2-14 Yeas 30, Nays 0. 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Secretary of the Senate
