                                  SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-1           BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Texas, 75th

 1-2     Legislature, Regular Session, 1997, That Senate Rule 12.03 be

 1-3     suspended in part as provided by Senate Rule 12.08 to enable the

 1-4     conference committee appointed to resolve the differences on Senate

 1-5     Bill No. 1311 to consider and take action on the following matters:

 1-6           1.  Senate Rules 12.03(1) and (3) are suspended to permit the

 1-7     committee to add new SECTIONS 2(a) and (b) of the bill to read as

 1-8     follows:

 1-9           SECTION 2.  (a)  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.

1-10           (b)  The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board shall make

1-11     grants under the Texas-Washington, D.C., Intern Scholarship Program

1-12     beginning when the coordinating board determines sufficient funds

1-13     are available to provide a reasonable number of grants, but not

1-14     earlier than the 2000 spring semester.

1-15           Explanation:  This change is necessary to provide that the

1-16     Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board may not begin awarding

1-17     scholarships before the 2000 spring semester and to change the

1-18     effective date of the Act to September 1, 1999.
