1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 988 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Paul Thomas Cook 1-6 WHEREAS, The passing of Paul Thomas Cook on March 4, 1996, at 1-7 the age of 67, brought a great loss to the family and many friends 1-8 of this esteemed Jasper resident; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Mr. Cook attended 1-10 Baylor University and graduated from The University of Texas, 1-11 and he enjoyed a fulfilling career with the Texas Department of 1-12 Transportation that spanned 40 years; he retired in 1995 as chief 1-13 resident engineer for Jasper, Newton, and Tyler counties; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Cook was a charter member of the Jasper Evening 1-15 Lions Club; he further contributed to his community by designing 1-16 architectural plans for many structures in the area, including the 1-17 highly praised Sandy Creek Park, and he was recognized for his 1-18 noteworthy contributions with Jasper's Citizen of the Year Award 1-19 in 1996; and 1-20 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he was sustained by his 1-21 abiding faith as a longtime member of the First Baptist Church 1-22 of Jasper, where he served in many capacities, having chaired the 1-23 Buildings and Grounds Committee and directed a Singles Sunday 2-1 school class with his wife, Liz; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Paul Cook touched the lives of many people during 2-3 his years on this earth, and though he is gone from us now, his 2-4 memory will long endure in the hearts and minds of all who knew 2-5 and loved him; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 75th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of 2-8 Paul Thomas Cook and extend sincere condolences to the members 2-9 of his family: his wife, Liz Cook; his sons and daughters-in-law, 2-10 Keith and Marcia Cook, Kevin and Monica Cook, and Kim and 2-11 Janey Cook; his daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Michael Parker; 2-12 his stepdaughters, Jamie Hopper and Kelly Schlotman and her 2-13 husband, Kirk Schlotman; his 10 grandchildren; and the many 2-14 other friends and relatives of this distinguished Texan; and, be 2-15 it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 2-17 prepared for the members of his family as an expression of deepest 2-18 sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Texas Senate 2-19 adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Paul Thomas Cook. 2-20 Nixon 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on May 31, 1997, by a rising vote. 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Secretary of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Member, Texas Senate
