1-1                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1000

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to

        1-3     recognize the Comal County Juvenile Residential Supervision and

        1-4     Treatment Center, Incorporated, for its vital work with children

        1-5     and adults; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, Established in 1981 as a nonprofit organization,

        1-7     the agency assumed the name of "Teen Connection" in 1983 to

        1-8     describe its function as a shelter for runaway, homeless, abused,

        1-9     and neglected girls ages 10 to 17; the agency also operated an

       1-10     alternative school for local school districts; and

       1-11           WHEREAS, In 1989, an emergency shelter for runaway,

       1-12     homeless, abused, and neglected boys ages 10 to 17 was opened;

       1-13     Teen Connection was further expanded in 1995 to include a family

       1-14     preservation program and an educational assessment center; nine

       1-15     more offices were opened in surrounding counties to meet the

       1-16     growing demand for the agency's services; and

       1-17           WHEREAS, The organization has continued to expand its

       1-18     operations to include substance abuse prevention, intervention,

       1-19     and treatment services and to provide victims assistance services

       1-20     for the elderly in 12 counties; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, The agency has been able to provide assistance

       1-22     to thousands of youths, families, and individuals; in an effort

       1-23     to promote long-term remediation, educational assessment and

        2-1     enhancement programs, drug abuse and chemical dependency counseling,

        2-2     and child placement services are offered to assist the individual

        2-3     to return to a more stable, law-abiding, and productive life; and

        2-4           WHEREAS, Counselors provide services in schools and homes and

        2-5     at office sites; crisis intervention is available 24 hours a day,

        2-6     seven days a week to meet the needs of families; now, therefore,

        2-7     be it

        2-8           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-9     75th Legislature, hereby commend the monumental efforts of the

       2-10     Comal County Juvenile Residential Supervision and Treatment Center,

       2-11     Incorporated, in redirecting the lives of children and adults; and,

       2-12     be it further

       2-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

       2-14     organization as an expression of the high regard and appreciation

       2-15     of the Texas Senate.
