 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1014

 1-3           WHEREAS, L. DeWitt Hale was a State Representative from

 1-4     Collin County for the Great State of Texas from 1939 to 1940, his

 1-5     first term; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, L. DeWitt Hale met Miss Carol Gene Moore while

 1-7     he was campaigning for the office of State Representative in

 1-8     Celina, Collin County, Texas, in 1946; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, L. DeWitt Hale simply asked Carol Gene Moore for a

1-10     vote and gave her a card announcing his campaign; and

1-11           WHEREAS, L. DeWitt Hale had attended The University of Texas

1-12     and obtained a degree in public administration and had also attended

1-13     The University of Texas School of Law; and

1-14           WHEREAS, L. DeWitt Hale was a young and dapper 28-year-old

1-15     lawyer restarting his law practice in McKinney, Texas, upon his

1-16     release from active duty with the United States Air Force; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Miss Carol Gene Moore was a beautiful young

1-18     20-year-old Texan and had attended what is now Texas Woman's

1-19     University; and

1-20           WHEREAS, L. DeWitt Hale began to drive the 40 miles from his

1-21     hometown of Farmersville, Texas, to Celina, Texas, on a regular

1-22     basis; and

1-23           WHEREAS, L. DeWitt Hale had the great honor of making

 2-1     Miss Carol Gene Moore into Mrs. L. DeWitt Hale, on June 8, 1947; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, L. DeWitt Hale and Carol Gene Hale had two children,

 2-3     Janet Sue Wilde, who was born on May 6, 1954, and Nancy Carol Hale,

 2-4     who was born on November 11, 1961; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, L. DeWitt Hale and Carol Gene Hale have three

 2-6     grandchildren from their daughter Janet Sue Wilde:

 2-7     Brandon DeWitt Wilde, Jennifer Lauren Wilde, and

 2-8     Thomas Joseph Wilde; and

 2-9           WHEREAS, L. DeWitt Hale served as State Representative from

2-10     Nueces County from 1953 to 1978, which, including his earlier

2-11     service, totaled a period of 26 years; and

2-12           WHEREAS, Carol Gene Hale served as a first grade

2-13     schoolteacher at Sam Houston Elementary School and at Casa Linda

2-14     Elementary School in Corpus Christi for a total of 20 years; and

2-15           WHEREAS, On June 8, 1997, L. DeWitt Hale and Carol Gene Hale

2-16     will have been married for a period of 50 years; now, therefore,

2-17     be it

2-18           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-19     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate L. DeWitt Hale and

2-20     Carol Gene Hale on their 50th wedding anniversary; and, be it

2-21     further

2-22           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby extend

2-23     best wishes for many more years of happiness and marriage to the

2-24     Honorable L. DeWitt Hale and his young wife, Carol Gene Hale.
