LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session February 19, 1997 TO: Honorable Clyde Alexander, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 17 Committee on Transportation By: Chisum House Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB17 ( Relating to posting signs along roadsides to promote traffic safety.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB17-As Introduced Implementing the provisions of the bill would result in a net impact of $0 to General Revenue Related Funds through the biennium ending August 31, 1999. Fiscal Analysis The bill would allow for the implementation of a traffic safety program that would include posting signs along the roadside at the site of traffic fatalities. Methodolgy The cost of a set of signs facing different directions is $800. The number of projected fatalities on the state highway system is approximately 2,775. Additional one time cost for the development of program literature is $50,000 with an ongoing annual cost of producing and distributing public information of $100,000.
