LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session February 9, 1997 TO: Honorable Ron E. Lewis, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 236 Committee on County Affairs By: Solomons House Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB236 ( Relating to reimbursement for mileage traveled by jurors.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB236-As Introduced No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would provide that jurors who are impaneled and, on the same day, must travel more than 10 miles to a location where they will serve on the jury are entitled to reimbursement for travel at a rate not to exceed the rate of mileage reimbursement for state employees. Most counties under the population of 250,000 (95% of all counties) would not be impacted at all since the courts will impanel jurors at the same location where they serve. A majority of counties with a population of 250,000 or greater will also not be impacted because only a few will require jurors to appear and then require them to travel more than 10 miles on the same day to a location where proceedings are held. No signifcant fiscal impact to units of local government is expected. Source: Agencies: 304 Comptroller of Public Accounts LBB Staff: JK ,TL ,DC
