LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session February 21, 1997 TO: Honorable Senfronia Thompson, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 293 Committee on Judicial Affairs By: Chisum House Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB293 ( Relating to the application of the professional prosecutors law to the district attorney for the 100th Judicial District.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB293-As Introduced Implementing the provisions of the bill would result in a net negative impact of $(64,630) to General Revenue Related Funds through the biennium ending August 31, 1999. The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill. The bill would apply the Professional Prosecutors Act to the district attorney for the 100th Judicial District composed of Carson, Childress, Collingsworth, Donley and Hall Counties. Fiscal Analysis The bill would increase the fiscal liability of the state by $32,315 annually. Methodolgy Under the provisions of the bill, the state would be liable for the increase in salary and benefits of the district attorney for the 100th Judicial District. The difference between the current salary and benefits of a district attorney not subject to the Professional Prosecutors Act and those subject to the act is $32,315 annually.
