LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session February 26, 1997 TO: Honorable Clyde Alexander, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 297 Committee on Transportation By: Driver House Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB297 ( Relating to certain signs controlling use of traffic lanes.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB297-As Introduced Implementing the provisions of the bill would result in a net impact of $0 to General Revenue Related Funds through the biennium ending August 31, 1999. Fiscal Analysis The bill would require the Department of Transportation or a local authority, on a highway having more than one lane with vehicles traveling in the same direction, that places a sign that directs slower traffic to travel in a lane other than the farthest left lane, to read "left lane for passing only". Methodolgy The estimate was derived by estimating the number of signs which will be required to be replaced (2,000) and multiplied by the estimated cost to fabricate each new sign ($500). Total cost is $1,000,000 (2,000 x $500).
