LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
75th Regular Session
April 7, 1997
TO: Honorable Debra Danburg, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 298
Committee on Elections By: Madden
House
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB298 ( Relating
to exceptions to the requirement to hold elections on a uniform
election date.) this office has detemined the following:
Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB298-As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Fiscal Analysis:
The bill would amend the Election Code to
reduce the number of exceptions to the state's four uniform
election dates and to prevent political subdivisions from holding
an election 30 days before or after a primary or general election.
Local governments could save money in election costs as several
elections, including bond elections, would be required to be
conducted on the same date as the state's four uniform election
dates.
