LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session February 18, 1997 TO: Honorable Barry Telford, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 337 Committee on Pensions and Investments By: Telford House Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB337 ( Relating to participation in and benefits from a statewide retirement system for volunteer firefighters and other emergency services personnel.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB337-As Introduced No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The fiscal implication to units of local government cannot be determined. The bill would expand eligibility to participate in the Statewide Volunteer Fire Fighters' Retirement plan to any local emergency services department employing volunteer and/or part-time paid emergency services personnel. The bill does not require a local department to participate. Any department choosing to join the plan must contribute a minimum of $12 per month per member ($144 per year per member). The department could also choose to purchase credit for prior service. The cost of the purchase would vary depending on the age and the number of years of prior service of each member.
