                               75th Regular Session

TO: Honorable Barry Telford, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 337
Committee on Pensions and Investments By: Telford
          House
          Austin, Texas

         FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB337 ( Relating
to participation in and benefits from a statewide retirement
system for volunteer firefighters and other emergency services
personnel.) this office has detemined the following:

Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB337-As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The fiscal implication to units of local government cannot be
determined. The bill would expand eligibility to participate
in the Statewide Volunteer Fire Fighters' Retirement plan to
any local emergency services department employing volunteer
and/or part-time paid emergency services personnel. The bill
does not require a local department to participate. Any department
choosing to join the plan must contribute a minimum of $12 per
month per member ($144 per year per member). The department
could also choose to purchase credit for prior service. The
cost of the purchase would vary depending on the age and the
number of years of prior service of each member.
