LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session May 1, 1997 TO: Honorable Eddie Lucio, Jr., Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 337, Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted Committee on Intergovernmental Relations By: Telford Senate Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB337 ( Relating to participation in and benefits from a statewide retirement system for volunteer firefighters and other emergency services personnel.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB337-Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would expand eligibility to participate in the Statewide Volunteer Fire Fighters' Retirement plan to any local emergency services department employing volunteer and/or auxiliary paid emergency services personnel. The bill does not require a local department to participate. Any department choosing to join the plan must contribute a minimum of $12 per month per member ($144 per year per member). The department could also choose to purchase credit for prior service. The cost of the purchase would vary depending on the age and the number of years of prior service of each member.
