LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session May 8, 1997 TO: Honorable John Whitmire, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 500, As Engrossed Committee on Criminal Justice By: Finnell Senate Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB500 ( Relating to application of the professional prosecutors law to the district attorney of the 50th Judicial District.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB500-As Engrossed Implementing the provisions of the bill would result in a net negative impact of $(72,709) to General Revenue Related Funds through the biennium ending August 31, 1999. The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill. The bill would apply the Professional Prosecutors Act to the district attorney for the 50th Judicial District. The bill would take effect on passage. Fiscal Analysis The bill would provide for an increase in salary for the district attorney for the 50th Judicial district. Methodolgy The increase would be $32,315 annually however, since the bill takes effect immediately on passage we assume that would begin in June of 1997. That would be three months additional salary in FY 97 at $2,693 per month or $8,079 in FY 97.
