LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session March 7, 1997 TO: Honorable Hugo Berlanga, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 723 Committee on Public Health By: Dukes House Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB723 ( Relating to informed consent before the performance of a hysterectomy.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB723-As Introduced No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would modify the Health and Safety Code by requiring that physicians first obtain oral and written informed consent before the performance of a hysterectomy on a patient. The exception would be when the hysterectomy is performed in a life-threatening situation in which the physician determines that prior informed consent is not possible.
