TO: Honorable Hugo Berlanga, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 727
Committee on Public Health By: Van de Putte
          House
          Austin, Texas

         FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB727 ( Relating
to the regulation of massage therapy; providing penalties.)
this office has detemined the following:

Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB727-As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Board of Health to adopt rules that
specify general course content and the minimum hours of instruction
in each subject area of the massage therapy curriculum. The
Department should be able to absorb costs of rules development
as a part of its regular business.

The bill would have no
fiscal impact on the State Office of Administrative Hearings.
The Office of the Attorney General may handle an average of
three new cases per fiscal year (related to petitions for judicial
review), but any additional work could be provided by current
staff.

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
