                               75th Regular Session

TO: Honorable James E. "Pete" Laney IN RE: House Bill No. 836, As Passed 2nd House
          Speaker of the House Gallego
          House of Representatives
          Austin, Texas

         FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB836 ( Relating
to optional extended year programs conducted by certain public
school districts.) this office has detemined the following:

Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB836-As Passed 2nd House

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The added requirement that students must satisfy the requirements
for promotion prescribed by Section 28.021 would have the effect
of clarifying that student performance and attendance are equally
important criteria in the promotion of Optional Extended Year
Program participants. Districts that promote fewer students
in reaction to this bill would increase education costs associated
with teaching these students, but these costs are not expected
to be significant.

No fiscal implication to units of local
governments is anticipated.
