FISCAL NOTE
75th Regular Session
April 16, 1997
TO: Honorable Allen Place, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 1323
Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence By: Luna, Wilma
House
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB1323 ( Relating
to a fee collected by a prosecutor for collecting and processing
a dishonored or forged check or similar sight order.) this office
has detemined the following:
Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB1323-As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
A county district attorney's office could increase revenues
if it raised fees associated with collecting and processing
dishonored or forged checks, as authorized by this bill. The
amount of increase in revenues would depend on the number of
bad checks for which a county imposes a fee and the collection
rate in the county.
Dallas County estimates that this bill
would increase revenues to the county district attorney's Hot
Check Fund by $71,250 per year. Denton County estimates that
its district attorney's office could increase annual revenues
by $75,000, if this bill were enacted.
