LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
75th Regular Session
April 4, 1997
TO: Honorable Ron E. Lewis, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 1504, Committee Report 1st House, Substituted
Committee on County Affairs By: Dutton
House
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB1504 ( Relating
to the reimbursement of jurors.) this office has detemined the
following:
Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB1504-Committee Report 1st House, Substituted
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
This bill would raise the maximum daily reimbursement for grand
jurors and petit jurors in district, county or justice courts
from $30 per day to $50 per day. The bill also would allow
a judge to increase the daily reimbursement for jurors in specific
cases, with the agreement of the parties involved, to the $50
maximum.
A commissioners court that raises juror reimbursements
as a result of this bill would incur additional costs depending
on the number of jurors serving in the county. Only counties
currently paying jurors $30 per day would be expected to raise
juror reimbursements as a result of this bill.
Cost increases
to local governments associated with allowing judges to raise
juror reimbursement to $50 per day in specific cases is not
expected to be significant, since a local government would only
be responsible for paying juror costs at a rate higher than
the current rate if the entity agreed to the increase.
