LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
75th Regular Session
May 2, 1997
TO: Honorable Hugo Berlanga, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 1514, Committee Report 1st House, as amended
Committee on Public Health By: Thompson
House
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB1514 ( Relating
to county support of paupers.) this office has detemined the
following:
Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB1514-Committee Report 1st House, as amended
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government
is anticipated. Although a county would be authorized to establish
a claim and lien against the estate of an indigent person who
has received medical assistance from the county, the county
would not be able to enforce a claim or lien if the person has
a surviving spouse, dependent, or a surviving child with a disability.
It is unlikely that significant amounts would be recouped through
this provision.
