LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 75th Regular Session April 14, 1997 TO: Honorable Irma Rangel, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 1629 Committee on Higher Education By: Berlanga House Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB1629 ( Relating to the tuition charged to certain foreign students with financial need at certain public institutions of higher education.) this office has detemined the following: Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB1629-As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. Similar annual fiscal implications This bill would allow students from Mexico with financial need to pay resident tuition rates at Texas A&M -Corpus Christi. Currently, three Mexican students attend Texas A&M Corpus Christi. It is assumed that the number of students would double to six and that 50% of those students would have financial need. The general revenue costs for FY 98 and FY 99 is estimated to be $61,000. No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
