TO: Honorable James E. "Pete" Laney IN RE: House Bill No. 1820, As Passed 2nd House
          Speaker of the House Solis
          House of Representatives

         FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB1820 ( relating
to the tuition charged to certain foreign students with financial
need at certain components of the Texas State Technical College
System and at Texas A&M University-- Corpus Christi) this office
has detemined the following:

Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB1820-As Passed 2nd House

No significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

The bill would exempt certain students from Mexico who attend
Texas State Technical College -Harlingen, Texas A&M University--Corpus
Christi, and Texas Southmost College in Brownsville. There
are currently nine students from Mexico who attend TSTC-Harlingen,
three from Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi, and 20 from
Texas Southmost College in Brownsville. Although this number
is expected to increase, the fiscal impact to the state would
not be significant.

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
