TO: Honorable Rodney Ellis, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 2183, As Engrossed
          Committee on Jurisprudence By: Greenberg
          Senate
          Austin, Texas

         FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on HB2183 ( Relating
to creation of the County Court at Law Number 4 of Travis County.)
this office has detemined the following:

Biennial Net Impact to General Revenue Funds by HB2183-As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Methodology

Annual cost $520,069 divided by 12 months =
43,339 X 9 months (Jan - Sept) = $390,051 plus $41,741 in start
up costs = $431,792

The bill would create an additional county court at law for
Travis County, giving preference to cases in which family violence
is alleged. The court would be created effective January 1,
1999.

Travis County officials estimate there would be an
initial cost of $431,792 in fiscal year 1999 to establish and
operate the court, with annual operating costs of $520,069.
It is expected that these costs will be offset to some extent
by increased revenues to the county.
